The specialty of paediatric dentistry offers variety and flexibility to dentists who are interested in treating children and young people from birth to the age of 16.  Dentists who choose a specialist paediatric training pathway will learn to be proficient in a wide range of treatment modalities as well as:

• managing trauma
• implementing safeguarding protocols
• diagnosing and treating complex conditions
• providing leadership in children’s oral health

Paediatric dentists can work in many different settings, including hospital, community and practice, often as part of a multidisciplinary team. There is also the option to take on an academic career and to combine teaching and practice in a dental school.
