Professor Claire Stevens CBE - Media Spokesperson

Claire is a Consultant within the Central Manchester Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and a Past President of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry. As co-ordinator of BSPD's media team, she has appeared on ITV's "Children’s Hospital", BBC's "The One Show" (where she showed Jonathan Ross how to brush his teeth!), Channel 4's "Food Unwrapped" and BBC's "Eat well for less". She has also been interviewed for Radio 4's "You and Yours" and "More or less: Behind the Stats", LBC and Radio 5 Live. Claire is mother to two young children and author of toothfairyblog.org which aims to educate parents to improve the oral health of children.

  Ms Kate Clark - PR & Media Consultant

Kate brings 25+ years of expertise as a corporate and consumer PR. Kate provides strategic PR support to BSPD and promotes the Society’s awareness and reputation within the industry - as well as within national and professional media. Kate has a background of working on a number of projects and awareness building campaigns achieving national TV and press, as well as influencer coverag


 
Dr Hannah Walsh


Hannah is a Specialty Registrar in Paediatric dentistry at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Her role takes her to Manchester Dental Hospital and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. Locally, Hannah is the secretary of the North West Branch of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry. Hannah both personally and as part of BSPD is very active on social media and is enthusiastic about getting the across to the public the importance of child dental health.

  Dr Urshla Devalia

Dr Urshla Devalia is a Consultant Paediatric Dentist, RNTNE & Eastman Dental Hospitals (UCLH) and CDC CiC, Bedfordshire. She is also National Lead for Mini Mouth Care Matters and Regional Paediatric Dentistry MCN Lead, East of England as well as being the Honorary Secretary to BSPD. Urshla focuses on the management of children with complex medical conditions (with or without associated dental anomalies), the management of complicated trauma injuries and minor oral surgery procedures.




  Professor Paula Waterhouse

Paula is a Professor of Paediatric Dentistry and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry. She is also the Degree Programme Director and Senior Tutor for BDS at Newcastle University, as well as a member of the School’s strategy team. Paula is a member of the School’s Executive Committee and is Co-chair of the Dental Sciences Board of Studies. Her previous roles have included leadership of outreach teaching, director of EDI and Athena SWAN champion, postgraduate tutor, and both Honorary Secretary and Chair of the Northern branch of BSPD.



  Dr Alaa Bani Hani

Dr Alaa Bani Hani is a specialist in Paediatric Dentistry and is currently completing her consultant training at Eastman Dental Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for children in UK. She is the chair of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry Teacher’s Branch, and the Teacher’s Branch representative at the Quality Improvement Research and Committee. In addition, she is a member of the RCS Ed Speciality Advisory Board. She has more than 14 peer-reviewed publications mainly in the field of dental caries prevention and management. Her recent publication ‘Minimal intervention dentistry for managing carious lesions into dentine in primary teeth: an umbrella review’ has contributed to the development of the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry guidelines on caries management in children. Alaa is a co-author of the ‘Best clinical practice guidance for treating deep carious lesions in primary teeth: an EAPD policy document’ published in 2022.

  Dr Rohini Mohan

Rohini is a Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry. She is currently the Specialist Paediatric Dentist and Lead for Paediatric Dentistry in Swansea Bay University Health Board CDS and Powys Teaching Health Board . She is the past Clinical Lead for CDS in SBUHB . Rohini has previously worked at the University Hospital Wales (Cardiff), and in General Practice. She is the Chair of the Strategic Advisory Forum ( SAF) for Paediatric Dentistry in Wales and Chair of the Managed Clinical Network (MCN) for Vulnerable Child and Adult group in South West Wales. She is the Wales Council Representative for BSPD UK and BSPD representative for Child Oral Health Improvement Board UK. Rohini has a passion to work to improve Child Oral Health and reduce inequalities for access to care in children.
