The BSPD Young Researcher's Prize

This competition is open to BSPD members, where the principal researcher is within 15 years of initial professional qualification. The research presented must be original, in the field of Paediatric Dentistry, and have been completed within the last 18 months.

Submitted abstracts will be considered by a panel of judges and a short-list of finalists will be asked to present their work at the Society's Annual Scientific Meeting. Participants will give a 10 minute oral presentation which will be followed by 5 minutes of questions. The panel of judges will decide upon a winner, to be announced at the Annual Conference Dinner.

BSPD Poster Prize

BSPD members are invited to submit their work for the Poster Prize at the Society's Annual Scientific Meeting. These will be displayed on a standard display board (c. 2m x 1.3 m: portrait) throughout the day of the Poster Session. As with the non-prize poster submissions, entrants will be asked to stand by their posters for one hour in order to answer informal questions from other delegates. However, in addition, they are required to give a three minute formal oral presentation followed by a two minute question session. The presentation may be supported by one PowerPoint of 35mm title slide. The panel of judges will decide upon a winner, to be announced at the Annual Conference Dinner.

Clinical Case Presentation sponsored by RA Medical

BSPD members, especially Trainees and Specialists in Paediatric Dentistry are invited to present interesting case studies at the Society's Annual Scientific Meeting. Clinical cases should demonstrate complex, novel or multidisciplinary treatments provided for a child and should satisfy one of the following criteria:

  • Involve any advanced restorative, prosthetic, periodontal, surgical or orthodontic treatments

  • Involve a multidisciplinary input to treatment planning and provision of care

  • Involve short, and ideally long term management of complex trauma cases

  • Involve short, and ideally long care management of patients with dental anomalies

  • Involve comprehensive treatment provision of patients with significant medical histories

  • Involve diagnostic and treatment approaches for patients presenting with rare or unusual pathology

Presenters will be required to give a 10 minute oral presentation which will be followed by a 5 minute discussion session. A prize for the best clinical case will be announced at the Conference Dinner.

Max Horsnell Travel Bursary

The British Society of Paediatric Dentistry has established this travel bursary to support BSPD members who wish to present a poster or oral communication at scientific meetings of the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry or the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry.

Award details

  • Two awards of £500.00 will be available per annum. If not awarded, the amount will be carried over to the following year.

  • Written applications must include: the applicant's name and contact details; name of employing institution; current position held;abstract of the paper to be submitted and details of the conference at which the paper is to be presented. The abstract should be limited to 250 words and be structured to include:objectives;design;setting;sample and methods;results and conclusions. Case reports should be structured to include: presenting problem; clinical management and discussion.

  • The BSPD president and a senior scientific advisor, who is not connected to the applicant's employing institution, will consider the applications.

  • Applicants will receive a reply within two weeks following the Bursary closing date.
